Squint Zine + Website

I started this project in Integrated Design Studio 1 for my midterm, I made a zine named “Squint” teaching about the history of Asian representation in American media. I continued this project in Core Interaction 1 in the Communication Design program after I switched my major from Integrated Design to Communication Design. I applied and got the Lang Civic Engagement & Social Justice (CESJ) Mini-grant in Fall 2020 and for my final project in my Core 1 Interaction class I created a website translating the information from my zine and translated additional knowledge from the book Asian Americans and Media onto the screen through code and vibrant imagery. The end goal of this ongoing project is to launch a website that fully visualizes important information on Asian American media history relevant to today’s political atmosphere, share printable pdfs of the book, and donate half the earnings to the Center of Asian American Media (CAAM), and share free downloadable pdfs of the book on the website as educational materials for anyone visiting the website!
